Christina Grimmie’s family sues concert promoter for her death

Legal documents, obtained by music news source Billboard, showed that the family of 22-year-old singer-songwriter Christina Grimmie has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming negligent infliction of emotional distress due to The Voice alumna’s fatal shooting.

The lawsuit which was filed in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, December 20, names as the defendant the concert promoter AEG Live and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, which owns the Plaza Live, where Grimmie was shot to death on June 10, 2016, during a fan meet and greet.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants “failed to take adequate security measures to ensure the safety of the performers and the attendees at the concert venue”, noting that only “superficial bag checks” were conducted.
