Airport takes note of new policy regarding Samsung Note 7 smartphones

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have been banned from air travel within, from, and to the United States, including on a passenger’s person, in carry-on baggage, and in checked baggage. However, Memphis International Airport in Tennessee will allow passengers to store these devices in their vehicles on airport property. The devices were banned because of reports that they are prone to explosions.

Samsung stopped the sale and manufacture of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on Tuesday, October 11. Passengers who try to smuggle a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in their checked baggage will find themselves facing criminal prosecution. As of last Wednesday, October 19, the Memphis-Shelby County Airport has yet to receive notice of an incident from the Transportation Security Administration. Memphis International public information officer Glen Thomas said: “If someone has the phone, they can give it to someone to take home, store it in their vehicle, or ship it through a ground carrier.”
