One child dies, another injured in Franklin County school bus-car collision
A child lost his life after the vehicle he was riding in collided with a school bus at the intersection of Highway 130 and Awalt Road in Franklin County, Tennessee on Thursday, September 24.
The victim, identified as five-year-old Tullahoma resident Maddox Mason by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, died after the 2000 Honda Civic operated by his mother, 29-year-old Tullahoma resident Aprille Rexroade, did not stop at the intersection and collided with a Franklin County school bus operated by 72-year-old Lorretta Stafford.
Rexroade sustained injuries along with her 10-year-old son, Shelton, who was wearing a seat belt in the middle seat in the back of the car. Rexroade, however, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, five-year-old Conner Mason, twin brother to Maddox Mason, was also in the car at the time of the accident and sustained minor injuries for which he received treatment.
Rexroade was given citations for failure to exercise due care, failure to stop, and for not wearing a seat belt.
