Driver who was sleeping at the wheel causes Highway 58 crash

A three-vehicular collision that occurred along Highway 58 at Hickory Valley Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Monday, August 22 at around 8 p.m. resulted in four people getting injured, with two of them reported as being in critical condition.

The Ranger hit a southbound Honda Civic sitting in the turn lane and overturned, colliding with one other vehicle. The driver of the Ranger, who later admitted that he fell asleep behind the wheel, had been trapped inside his vehicle.

Three other people from the other vehicles were hurt during the incident. All four victims were taken via Emergency Medical Services ambulances to area hospitals for immediate treatment.

The northbound lanes of Highway 58 at Hickory Valley Road were immediately shut down following the accident.

Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigations are conducting further investigation to find out other factors that might have contributed to the accident.
