GM announces 4th recall amid engine fires in various vehicle models
Michigan-based automaker General Motors Co. announced on Tuesday, October 27 that it is recalling 1.4 million vehicles – 1.3 million of which are located in the United States – due to dangers that these vehicles might catch fire when oil drips onto hot engine components.
Among the models covered in the recall are the 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impalas, 1998-1999 Luminas, 1998-2004 Monte Carlos, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigues, 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, and 1997-2004 Buick Regals.
Some owners of the recalled vehicles have grown frustrated over the automaker’s failure to adequately repair their vehicles, with one owner saying, “The repair was obviously not effective as my car still caught fire, just as described in the recall.”
GM spokesman Alan Adler said that the first recall was made in 2008 and covered around 200,000 vehicles. A second recall was announced in 2009, and a third followed in May of 2015. This most recent announcement marks the company’s fourth recall related to these engine fire issues.
