Over 100 women sue pharmaceutical company over packaging error
Over 100 women are filing a class action lawsuit against Qualitest Birth Control Pharmaceuticals, claiming that a packaging error led to surprise pregnancies. The error occurred after the packages were rotated 180 degrees during manufacturing causing the sugar placebo pills to be placed where the birth control pills were intended to be packaged.
This led to women taking the sugar pills when they believed they were taking proper contraception. The 113 women across 28 states are seeking millions in damages for their unplanned pregnancies and for the cost of raising a child through adulthood, including education. The recalled pills were manufactured in 2011 and, although the company claims it only affected a small number of packages, over 3.2 million units have been voluntarily recalled.
